X Journalists would make claims of people like Anita Sarkeesian "playing video games all her life" when she openly admitted many times she is not a gamer and only starter recently (when it wasn't for an interview). Various developers trading sex or money for good reviews got exposed, journalists who accepted got exposed. People became a bit more critical about supporting a game just because the developer has a victim complex stating tat their game could have only failed because of sexism, instead of their own poor developing skills. What really sealed the deal was opposition often faking their own harassment. Anita sarkeesian and Zoe Quinn have been caught multiple times screenshotting "harassment" while showing that the harrasser's account name in the login. Or when someone called the police to help Sarkeesian against a "very real threat" she was posting about, only for police to find the harasser's messages were coming from her IP address. Anyway, wanted to jump back in from the real world and make a couple of point:s 1) We're actually winning. I was worried I was lost in the echo chamber of "we're winning" NI threads for too long. But after taking a step back, I actually think we're legitimately winning. Trust in journalism has taken a huge hit, and people are starting to become aware they are agenda-driven self-promoting manipulative liars. Minds are being changed 2) The indie publications (Kotaku, RPS, etc) NEED to still be the primary target for being completely discredited as a remotely reliable source, as people like Leigh Alexander because seriously... f--- her. She's such a s----- person it's not even funny. If anyone says "well, why not go after AAA-focused publications" link them this: http://en wikipedia org/wiki/Fallacy_of relative_privation 3) Dont f------ compromise. Burn it down. I say this as a developer because I'm willing to put up my game development skills in the free market against other peoples. The corrupt journo nepotism "it's about promoting a game with the right message (aka my friends)" doesn't benefit people who actually have skills. It hurts people who actually have skills, which means it lowers the quality of the general body of games 4) A lot of developers support gamergate, but cant exactly have a voice. Not as long as Leigh Alexander can write completely fabricated articles in the Time magazine about how someone who criticized her over twitter is a r----- that rapes women and promotes r--- culture. And then it turns up in wikipedia and everywhere else. That's not a label anyone can afford having 5) The goal of gamergate really needs to be demonstrating to developers (who read, but can't comment publicly) that Kotaku is rigged, indie awards are rigged, and unless you are dating one of their journos or in their little clique then doesn't matter how good your game is, or how much you email them, you ain't never getting positive press You're not going to convince people to stop READING Kotaku, but if you convince developers to stop focusing so much effort on getting a journo to come down from the mountain and notice them, then Kotaku will go away on its own. 6) Seriously, we cannot comprise. Alea iacta est 7) Resist calls for "you need leadership" and "distancing yourself from harassers" and "you need concrete goals" etc etc. They are red herrings designed to muddy the waters. The path to victory is continuing on the path WERE ALREADY ON 8) Be very aware that it's been easy for us, because these journos are morons that don't understand what they say publicly can be screen-capped. Stop buying AAA titles at release. Stop pre-ordering. If the new Fallout/Elder Scrolls/etc comes out (whatever franchise turns you on), at the very least wait two weeks before buying it. It won't kill you. But it WILL send a message to AAA developers they need to also put pressure on journos.
