Do not fall into the trap of providing what the opposition wants: a leader and a list of goals Instead, I suggest we craft a PHILOSOPHY to work as an engine for GamerGate. Decide which are the points we will engage, which are the points we won't, spread it around like wildfire and boom Now, since this is a PHILOSOPHY, and I repeat, not a list of goals, it should not focus on specific issues or specific people. Once we establish what are the concepts we represent in a clear way. Now, I'm not a wordslinger like many of you, but so far, from my understanding, this is the s--- that binds us together: We repudiate cronyism We repudiate nepotism We repudiate corruption We repudiate back-alley deals We repudiate questionable journalistic practices We repudiate the lack of editorial standards and quality control currently rampart on some websites We repudiate unconstrained and rampart political and ideological pandering, especially so on articles passed on as news pieces We repudiate the lack of separation between professional and personal lives of both journalists and the people they report on; and We repudiate external pressuring on developers to change their artistic vision in order to consider how certain groups FEEL about certain issues We have went through hell and high-water this past month but here we stand, brothers and sisters. We stuck together despite the odds, despite the harassment we suffered, despite public defamation, despite personal attacks, despite the numerous raids we suffered, and despite being expelled from our home forum As far as_have seen, the common points_we_generally seem to voice as our main interests, we stand philosophically for: Quality journalism, in the same sense that a piece of software goes through quality control Objectivity on news reporting, through the quest for perfection is unachievable it is of paramount essence for quality journalism Opinion pieces guided by empathy, as it hits close to what objectivity could be on purely subjective matters Adherence to the ethical standards proposed by the Society of Professional Journalists, enforced through stricter editorial control; and Professionalism and decorum when presenting oneself towards the public when speaking as journalists I believe this is the Holy Ghost of GamerGate. Author has 304 answers and 740.1K answer views. 5y Not that I care that much either way, but it did expose a lot of corrupt game developers and game journalists. X Journalists would make claims of people like Anita Sarkeesian "playing video games all her life" when she openly admitted many times she is not a gamer and only starter recently (when it wasn't for an interview). Various developers trading sex or money for good reviews got exposed, journalists who accepted got exposed. People became a bit more critical about supporting a game just because the developer has a victim complex stating tat their game could have only failed because of sexism, instead of their own poor developing skills. What really sealed the deal was opposition often faking their own harassment. Anita sarkeesian and Zoe Quinn have been caught multiple times screenshotting "harassment" while showing that the harrasser's account name in the login. Or when someone called the police to help Sarkeesian against a "very real threat" she was posting about, only for police to find the harasser's messages were coming from her IP address.
