But in Iceland - a country with just 320,000 reaidents the likelihood that you are related to any given person is a bit higher than in the U.S., home to 300 million. Luckily, there's an app for that. Yes, really. A nationwide genealogy project that kicked off in 2010 has spawned an Android app that lets users check to see if their new friend is actually their cousin, according to NewsofIceland.com The free fslendingaApp hit the Google Play store on SLENDINGABOK Sunday and includes data on Icelandic residents dating back more than 1,200 years, thanks to the islendingabók project. The idea behind slendingabók was "to trace all known family connections between Icelanders from the time of the settlement of Iceland to present times and register the genealogical information in a database, according to a note on its website. All that data, however, was like developer gold, so project organizers kicked off a contest that awarded a 1 million Kroner to the person or team with the best idea for how to use it. App developers Sad Engineer Studios earned the prize with their "anti-i-----" app.
