My team just got started on an SDR search with a client who had interviewed 22 candidates, 0 hires. The biggest reason they passed on each of them? Candidates were only asking about PTO and WFH policies. Job Seekers: Interviewers learn more about you from the questions YOU ask, than any answer you give. It tells them what's important to you and if you did any research/prep prior to your interview. Yes, interviewing is a two-way street, but your questions shouldn't solely focus on what's in it for you. Explain how you can add value and solve problems first, then uncover how they reward employees who do. P.S - Glassdoor, RepVue, Comparably, etc can probably tell you what the benefits, WFH policies, etc. look like if it's not in the job description. CoO 213 181 comments • 8 reposts

If you want to set yourself apart in this market, you have to do more than that. If you want to truly stand out, truly be unforgettable... send a ransom note. Make sure it's hand written(by the person you have temporarily acquired possession of) and have it delivered via certified mail, requiring a signature. Boom, immediate feedback. Coltin Caverhill • 3rd+ Engineering Manager at Yelp 4d. • + Follow Managers, be very careful what you say to your engineers! I commented in a slack thread. It was a simple comment of "I wish we had feature X". I thought I was being fun. I thought it would get emoji responses and we would move on. The engineers solved it. Do you know how much we pay Software Engineers!? I did not mean for them to work on this thing and solve my issue. But they wanted to make things better, and if the manager points out an issue, they felt like it should be solved. This was not a big deal, and not a ton of time was spent, but it was a good reminder for me that I am not an engineer, I am a manager. And while that title is mostly meaningless to me, it means something to others. What I say magically holds more gravity not because of the merit of the statement, because of the title I hold. OPENTOWORK Jason Roeder. 3rd+ Copywriter/Comedy Writer/Editor/... 1w. + Follow I immediately remove my shoes and socks upon entering any interview. Why do I do this? If they say nothing, I know they will not enforce even the most fundamental dress code. I cannot work in such chaos. If they tell me to put them back on, I know conformity reigns in this workplace, and my creativity will suffer. I cannot work there. If they tell me to put one sock and shoe on, I know they value balance and compromise. Only then will I work there.
