And even without those factors: Just imagine a random cultist lady catching the eye of the gods. They give her a quest, she proves worthy, they offer power as a reward, and she just points at the next Astartes like "That. Make me that." - and the gods are like "weird, but within reason, have fun" before dropping the now grossly mutating and shifting body off at the doorstep of a random warband like "hey, you all got a daughter now!".
