Technology has made it easier and quicker to do our household upkeep so we have more free time than those in the past. Yet our time working for others has only increased, despite technology and more efficient institutions making our labor many times more productive than back then. Da Sad Well that's because we have more stuff to make. Medieval peasants didn't have TVs or refrigerators or cars. Consumption has increased along with production. Exactly! But much of the stuff being produced we don't need or even want! Goods and systems are intentionally designed to be inefficient in order to make more money, and things are created just to be thrown away. Why do I need to work so much to survive when much of the stuff I make is useless?
