The time calculation in Level F overflows the timer so it results in a time limit that is too small to reach the goal. DK Jr. can not get very far before dying like this. Curiously, the exact same glitch also made Level 22 in the Donkey Kong arcade a kill screen.

In Donkey Kong Country, if a Kong throws a DK Barrel, but the level is exited before it hits the ground, then the next time that Kong is hit by an enemy, instead of dying, he will simply freeze in place with a shocked expression forever.

This is the result of the completion value becoming so large that it wraps back around to a negative value due to integer overflow. Details in image. However, by using glitches to duplicate existing Golden Bananas, the count can be increased to 280, after which the game stops counting them. In DKC, Diddy's "minigame loss" animation is him stomping on his hat. In Tanked Up Trouble, it is possible to cause it to play while next to a ledge, resulting in Diddy throwing his hat into the abyss and jumping in after it, dying in the process.
