FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 15, 2022 Two Men Sentenced to 44 Months in Prison For Assaulting Law Enforcement Officers During Jan. 6 Capitol Breach Defendants Sprayed Police Officers With Chemical Agent WASHINGTON - Two men were sentenced today to 44 months in prison for assaulting law enforcement officers during the breach of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, which disrupted a joint session of the U.S. Congress that was in the process of ascertaining and counting the electoral votes related to the presidential election. Cody Mattice, 29, of Greece, New York, and James Phillip Mault, 30, formerly of Brockport, New York, were sentenced in the District of Columbia. According to court documents, on Jan. 2, 2021, Mault and Mattice began texting about plans to travel from New York to Washington. On Jan. 3, Mault texted Mattice to say that he had bought Mattice pepper spray and a baton. Mattice then said he had a high-powered fire extinguisher that they could keep in their vehicle to repel crowds, if necessary. On Jan. 5, Mault texted Mattice and several others, suggesting that the others bring batons, pepper spray, helmets, eye protection and "asskicking boots." Before marching to the Capitol on Jan. 6, Mattice recorded himself blocks away, saying, "It's about to be nuts." According to court documents, both men arrived on the Capitol grounds and joined others in advancing to the police perimeter at the West Plaza. Shortly before the police line was breached, Mault attempted to convince officers to stand down and join with the mob. At approximately 2:30 p.m., Mattice pulled down a segment of the metal barricades that stood in front of a police line. He quickly grabbed it with both hands, pulling it away from officers and onto the ground. A short time later, rioters overwhelmed the police line, forcing officers to retreat up a central staircase to the Lower West Terrace. Mattice and Mault were part of the group that assaulted the police line. They stood at or near the front of the group, pushing forward against the officers, who attempted to keep the rioters from advancing. At approximately 4 p.m., Mattice and Mault approached the tunnel leading into the Capitol Building from the Lower West Terrace. They attempted to push through the crowd and climbed up and body-surfed over other rioters. After reaching the tunnel, they grabbed onto and hung from the wooden frame surrounding the arch. Mattice reached out to another rioter and grabbed a small object appearing to be a canister. He then sprayed chemical spray at police officers. After doing so, Mattice fell back and into the crowd. Mault likewise obtained a small canister containing chemical spray from another member of the crowd, and he, too, sprayed it at officers defending the tunnel. Mault also got a second canister from the crowd and provided it to another rioter. Mattice was arrested on Oct. 7, 2021, in Hilton, New York. Mault, who now resides in Fayetteville, North Carolina, was arrested the same day in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Both pleaded guilty on April 22, 2022, to assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers. Following their prison terms, each will be placed on three years of supervised release. They also must pay $2,000 each in restitution.

Their actions and the actions of others disrupted a joint session of the U.S. Congress convened to ascertain and count the electoral votes related to the presidential election. Arrested were Leslie Gray, 56, Traci Isaacs, 52, and her husband, Luis Hallon, 67, all of St. Cloud, Florida. They were named in a complaint filed in the District of Columbia. Gray is charged with civil disorder and obstruction of an official proceeding, both felonies, as well as misdemeanor offenses. Isaacs is charged with destruction of documents, a felony, and related misdemeanors, and Hallon is charged with misdemeanor offenses. All three defendants were arrested in St. Cloud and are expected to make their initial court appearances later today in the Middle District of Florida. Gold's Medical and Legal Training Are Aggravating, not Mitigating Factors The Court should reject any contention by Gold that her previous career as a doctor and her legal education are mitigating factors. They are not. Among all the rioters who breached the Capitol on January 6, Gold, as a trained doctor, could have been expected to exhibit care for the safety of the officers who were being continuously threatened and assaulted. Gold did no such thing. Rather, Gold ignored the plight of a Capitol Police Officer who was pulled into an aggressive crowd right next to her, using it as an opportunity to force her way into the building. Gold would go on to disrespect the physical and emotional trauma that the officers plainly suffered that day by publicly claiming it was all "incredibly peaceful." Similarly, Gold, having attended a premier law school, could be expected to have been amply aware that entering the U.S. Capitol with a forceful mob, and rushing past broken windows to do so, was illegal. Gold could be expected to have had an understanding that breaking into the House Chamber on the very day that, under established law, the United States Congress certifies the results of the presidential election, would have particularly harmful consequences for our 19 Case 1:21-cr-00085-CRC Document 68 Filed 06/09/22 Page 20 of 26 democracy. Yet Gold joined a mob that attempted to do exactly that, and she has no shown no true remorse for doing so. This factor supports a sentence of incarceration.

Texas Men Arrested for Assaulting Law Enforcement Officers During Jan. 6 Capitol Breach Two Brothers Accused of Hurling Flagpole, Large Object at Officers WASHINGTON - Two Texas men were arrested today for assaulting law enforcement officers during the breach of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Their actions and the actions of others disrupted a joint session of the U.S. Congress convened to ascertain and count the electoral votes related to the presidential election. Brian Jackson, 47, and his brother, Adam Jackson, 42, both of Katy, Texas, are charged in the District of Columbia with assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers, civil disorder, and related offenses. They were arrested in Katy, Texas, and are expected to make their initial court appearances later today in the Southern District of Texas. According to court documents, the Jacksons were among rioters illegally on the grounds of the Capitol on Jan. 6. At approximately 5 p.m. that day, they assaulted a line of law enforcement officers outside of the tunnel area of the Lower West Terrace. Brian Jackson hurled a flagpole at officers. Adam Jackson hurled a large red or orange object at officers and then charged at the line of officers with what appeared to be a U.S. Capitol Police riot shield. In a video on Brian Jackson's Facebook account, a voice is heard saying, "Adam got a god-damned shield, stole it from the f---- popo." Later, Brian Jackson "unsent" several messages that he had sent bragging about his participation in the riot and sent multiple messages asking others to delete videos and messages he had sent. Adam Jackson, meanwhile, exchanged messages with another person on Jan. 10, 2021, in which he indicated he wanted to return to Washington for the inauguration. The other person asked Adam Jackson if he brought the riot shield home with him, and Jackson responded, "No, we left them. Cost to much to ship home lol." This case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia and the Department of Justice National Security Division's Counterterrorism Section. Valuable assistance was provided by the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Texas. The case is being investigated by the FBI's Houston Field Office.
