Projects of this size: Give our public land away to for-profit developers. We have a surplus of market-rate apartments, and a severe shortage of affordable housing. Why create more vacant luxury units? Are bad for the planet: High-rise development is not green, according to a recent report from the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. (https://www.ipcc.ch/report/sixth-assessment-report-working-group-i) Increase housing inequality: The recent study of densification and displacement in Berkeley by the Anti-Eviction Mapping Project found that building more market rate apartments does not decrease displacement of low income residents, while building affordable below-market units will have the greatest impact on the affordability crisis. • Overwhelm neighborhoods with shadows extending over homes and rooftop solar panels; severe traffic congestion; and proposed 5 foot sidewalks that mean little room for strollers, wheelchairs and trees. Very tall buildings also bring years of intense construction noise. Speak Up NOW, Before It's Too Late - Tell the Mayor and Council They Should: 1. Zone a maximum height of 7 stories (what staff has recommended) to achieve responsible, climate friendly housing; reject the extremist 12-18 story proposal and don't settle for more than 7 stories! 2. Build 100% affordable housing that meets Berkeley's real needs, even if it takes more time and funding to accomplish. High rise market rate units threaten affordability. 3. Protect the environment, build with wood, not concrete and metal, and truly decrease car use rather than increasing cars circulating through residential neighborhoods. I didn't want to hold up the drive thru line because it was 11:30 am and I figured the lunch crowd was about to start, but I had no other options. I tried to call 4 times beforel arrived but no one picked up the phone. 4 With all the restaurants and food establishments struggling, I thought customer experience would be a priority. I sat in the front while they made my order and when the 2 girls came out with the bags, they were friendly and stood there while I checked for everything. Karen Marriott Hotels 1d · In March, we stayed at the Marriott Courtyard in Aruba using almost 250,000 points. It was supposed to be walking distance to their private beach across the road. The beach had no umbrellas, and only one tree for shade. I was told to get there by 8am if I wanted a chair and shade. Totally unacceptable. I had to go to a different beach where I had to pay for transportation, chairs and umbrellas for a week. I contacted Marriott Corp. several times in last month regarding some sort of compensation. I have gotten no reply except acknowledgement of message sent. This isn't up to Marriott standards! l'd like to hear from them!! O Like Comment Share 173

r/india 8h should i start shaming cashiers for not saying 'thank you for shopping' during checkout Rant / Vent Iam not sure if this is just my location you guys can chime in as well. But i can literally count on one hand the number of times i've been thanked for spending my money at my local supermarket , or any other retail establishment for that matter - gas stations , bookstores , salons to name a few during the last few years. I thought indians were supoosed to be hositable people. Why i am being excluded from that experience ! Almost tempted to snap back at the whichever old hag ends up working the cash register the next time i am out shopping and calling her out for not thanking the customer aka me. I am sure its part of their SOP, no reason these people get to just tell me the final amount and then f--- off mentally What are you guys experiences shopping around the country ? is it better where you are? edit: 40 minutes since i'd posted this thread and as of right now it stands at only 7 5% upvoted and falling.
