Storytelling tips from Daughter of the Lilies | Webcomics | Know Your Meme

Choosing where to start a story is one of the most challenging decisions a storyteller faces, and depending on who you ask, the best place to do so will be different depending on that person's sensibilities. Personally, I like to start any story I write in the middle of it, at a point of Status Quo that is Familiar and normal to the characters, but wildly strange and unfamiliar to the audience. It's an easy way to introduce characters, introduce them to the rules they operate within, and the expectations for the story, all at once without being too overwhelming. Therefore, nothing on this page is unintentional; every bit of it is crafted to carefully introduce newcomers to the basics, before hitting them hard with the content on the next page. A very loose rule of webcomics is that every page starts with an answer, and ends with a question. This page gives us a better look at that dude we could barely make out on the page previous, and ends on the question of "What has he Ffound?" By the way, I don't know if you can see it at this size, but there is a very, very slight area where you can possibly see where I had to expand the borders of the page to create a safer Bleed For printing. ("Bleed" is a printing term referring to any content that falls outside of the dimensions of the Final product, that will be trimmed away at the end of the process. Standard Bleed sites are 0.125in (O.3175cm) on every side, but we elected for a 0.25in (0.635cm) For this book.) KHMP
