I appreciate your follow up text from last week. Due to my schedule, I didn't respond sooner because I wanted to take the time, one last time to help you understand something. I come from generations of self-employed people. Parents, grand-parents and of course, great- grandparents. I have been self-employed for nearly 30 years myself. My daughter is now going to follow in my footsteps as well. When you work for yourself, YOU are the face of your business. YOUR name is your reputation. When a customer is dissatisfied, you have to take that seriously because once your reputation is tarnished, it is nearly impossible to get that back. Regardless of what your family or uncie or anyone eise has told you about the situation between you and I, what everyone failed to see was the long-term affect. You won a battle, as they say, but lost the war. You not only lost a good account over $35.00, but you lost ALL future referrals from me as well and who knows how much that would have been? Had you shown that "the customer is always right" (a lesson many learn too late), we would likely still be doing business. This was never about the money, it was about the principle. I have mentored many people over the years that have gone on to become very successful and that is not bragging. Most people do not even know that about me. As I told you, I hired you in the beginning to give you a chance. No matter if you are $5.00 less or $25.00 less in your weekly charges, a poor job is never acceptable. I have done business for years, with Lawncare, LLC), who started out just like you did. He did lawnmowing, his dad would drive him over and assist some, he did power washing, etc. He now has a very successful business with at least 3. Puys on a crew that I saw working one trailer for him. I did not hire him first this time for folks are friends and clients of mine. I prefer to help the "underdog" the one just getting started. That despite that his was you. However, you cannot run a business without accountability. Not only did you not do the job right on 7/18, but neither on 7/7. AND, you would not have come back and done the job correctly had I not called you out on it! That is a terrible place to be in your business. You will not stay in business long doing that. I truly believe you are a hard worker and good person at heart, in this instance. I hope you think about your reputation and knowing that every job you do is a reflection of your name and your reputation. My mother used to tell me that if you are not going to do a job right, don't do it at all. Words to live by.. and I believe you were misguided T wish you only the very best with school and your business. I too am sorry this didn't work out for you.
