ourimaler 4 hours ago Dear Mrs. Faust Thank you (this can never be repeated enough) for FIM I was recently involved in an online discussion about it, and had a disagreement with someone...over a debate that seems to come up a lot in this fandom: Namely, the morality of Luna's banishment. There seem to be two major interpretations: Some (such as yours truly) assume that Night Mare Moon was effectively an apocalyptic villain, whose eternal night was going to cause immense damage to the world, maybe even outright destruction (lowered visibility, destroyed ecosystems, dropping temperatures, plants dying without sunlight...). That Night Mare Moon was destroying everything knew it, and was willing to do it anyway. And that therefore Celestia was fully justified in banishing her to the Moon -Others believe that the world was in no real danger, either because eternal night wouldn't have caused worse than some inconvenience (due to Luna's magic), or because Luna was merely throwing a harmless fit of teenage rebellion and wasn't actually going to push things far enough to endanger her people. And that therefore, Celestia was the one at fault, overreacting with a cruel and disproportionate punishment. There are a few other interpretations (based in part on speculation on how the Elements of Harmony actually work), of course But, I was wondering...What's your take on it? Was Night Mare Moon an end-of-the-world baddie? Was she just harmless teenage rebellion? Reply Where I Watch My Little Pony: [linkl *fyre-flye 4 hours ago This is how I had it worked out---NMM did not just intend to make eternal night, but to usher in an era of evil. Celestia had a responsibility to her "people" to protect them. Not many viewers noticed, but the narration in the opening of the pilot said that Celestia banished her "reluctantly." She didn't want to do it, but had to Luna was no longer present, jealousy buried her inside NMM. The possibility of drawing Luna's goodness out from NMM's form was not possible for 1,000 years (she stayed NMM while in the moon)and Celestia did what she could to orchestrate the events the led to breaking the spell jealousy had put on her I know this leads to many more questions (why 1,000 to break the spell, why didn't Celestia do more, why Twilight and the gang, etc.) but that's as far as I ever got with it.
