Mayor mare is, at the core, just a puppet official, with twilight actually having implicit power over her due to a direct line to the supreme ruler of equestria). Likewise, other "Students" are tasked with other towns and other tasks throughout equestria, insuring that princess Celestia's perfect vision for pony society is enforced Simulatenously, they submit their findings on magical phenomenon, insuring that Celestia's magical academy continues its advancement of Arcanic study for future recruits. Logically, after all.. Would the supreme ruler/deity of a world personally run a school with no larger purpose than academia?
