In search of Hmong- and Karen-speaking volunteers ECEMBER 15, 2020 launching a phone call program to monitor the health and wellness of patients with In January limited Engl.. proficiency who have recently taken a COVID PCR test. Patient Education is looking for volunteers who are fluent in Hmong and Karen to assist with these phone calls. Volunteers will: • Receive inbound calls and assess the caller's needs. Give general guidance (i.e. self-isolation guidelines, symptom management, etc.) based on resources provided. Escalate clinical needs to the nursing pool and a trained medical interpreter. Calls will come in during regular business hours and can be answered through your computer. Training and technology will be provided. How the program works: • Patients will receive automated phone calls for seven days after a PCR test is ordered. The calls include basic, pre-recorded COVID information in their preferred language. Patients will have an option to speak with a care team member if they, or someone in their household, has worsening COVID symptoms. If the patient chooses this option, the call will be transferred to the volunteer to begin assessment. This work is appropriate for people: • Who are fluent in Hmong and/or Karen. • Whose work is performed primarily at a desk.
