v=zcin8fEnYyQ Hi everyone! My name's Aaron. Today, l'd like to change things up and share a personal message with all of you. In 2015, SEGA asked me to return and run PR and Social for a certain blue hedgehog. I was a huge fan of Sonic since a young age, but I had no idea just how interesting things were about to become. Some of you will remember, but back then, Sonic was in a tough spot. His latest game had failed, the entire San Francisco office was being shut down, and SEGA was moving down to LA. If things didn't turn around for Sonic, and soon, I was worried about what the future held. I opened Sonic's Twitter account that first day, and was greeted with comments so negative and personal, I realized instantly that, just for my own sanity, something had to change. So, in a risky career move, I stopped running tweets through approvals in Japan. I started posting whatever I felt would work – fun content, memes, references you wouldn't expect from an official account – the conversation had to change, and I was confident that we could change it. Normally, this is a good way to lose your job. I cannot thank you all enough for what happened next, because you saved my career. Within a day, the account had jumped 30,000 followers, and it just kept growing - 500k followers, a million, two million, three million... The goal was to make you laugh, and to try and embody some of Sonic's old '90s attitude along the way. I hope we've been able to brighten your days and bring a silly grin to your face at least a few times over these past five years. Today, after five great years, it's time for me to say goodbye as I officially pass the torch and move to a new position within SEGA. If you do notice any changes, I think you'll like them - things already changed hands many months back, and I'm thrilled that talented people like Katie, Justin, and others will be the ones leading the channels forward into the new decade. (And what a decade it's been already!) As this chapter comes to a close and a new one begins, l'd like to thank a number of people: To the wonderful people of SEGA San Francisco, who taught, guided, and believed in a young 19-year-old as he grew up among their ranks: Julian, Kellie, Judy, Thu, Ken, and countless others who worked there - I was so lucky to have you all as mentors many years ago. Thank you, sincerely. Thank you Ivo, Suai-san, and lizuka-san for believing in an unprecedented pitch for a pixel Sonic game that would grow to become Sonic Mania. Christian, thank you and the team for delivering it so wonderfully - it will remain one of the projects I am most proud to have been involved with. Tyson, thank you for not only making a crazy idea about a "Sonic CD-like animation" happen for Mania, but for always being someone we could rely on, whether creating animations or dropping everything to help with a certain film. To all the employees of SEGA and Sonic Studio: thank you for all that you do right now to support our blue blur, and this company that means so much to all of us who grew up with it. Finally, thank you. The Sonic fanbase is huge, highly passionate, and widely opinionated. Some people like to see the challenges here, but those exist naturally in any group as large and widespread. I see you for the wondrous good you have done and continue to do. I have watched you raise funds for children in hospitals around the world, unite to support causes that need it, and even turn a meme about Knuckles into real support and supplies for children in Uganda. I couldn't be more proud of what all of you as the Sonic fanbase have accomplished, and what I know you will continue to accomplish in the coming years.
