Retelling a 23 year-old plot of one of the most influential games in history the exact same way would be a hollow endeavor that robs you of the excitement of the unknown. To criticize the decision of letting the new retelling go off the rails for not being the same game you played as a child implies you refuse to let the series evolve in new ways simply because you cling to the sacred pedastal you put it on. Bad Story! Not my Final Fantasy!
