In case you were holding out: hope, dashed. Speaking to Inside Gamer, Pokemon boss Junichi Masuda re-confirmed that yes, there are no plans to add the National Pokedex into Sword and Shield. Although there were some "maybes" thrown out since the news came back in June at E3, Game Freak is now sticking to their guns and eliminating the prospect altogether. Masuda states: "We now have no plans to make the Pokemon that are missing in the Galar Pokedex in- game available. That is an approach that we want to continue with Pokemon games in the future. Of course, up to now it has not been possible to encounter every Pokemon in every game, so people had to transfer it from old games via Pokemon Bank to the new game, for example."

GameFreak has been re-using the same assets given to them by Creature's Inc. since 2013. All of the Pokemon are exactly GEN 8(2019) the same from X and Y to Sword and Shield in model, texture, and animation. The work to be done is minimal. XY (2013) Male

Only got to speak to him today, and he laughed when he heard about the reasoning. Even if you said it's in a new engine (i.e.: switching from a custom engine to Unity or Unreal) all you would have to do is export the models in a different format. Same with animations Literally a minute or two job for each model. Textures are the harder part, but a dedicated team of 20 or so would be able to finish ~800 models in less than a month depending on the level of quality. Animations haven't changed, so that's again a port job. The only thing that he could understand is game balance, but they aren't changing stats (from what we've seen so far), they're not changing abilities, and at most they're changing learnsets. That's also a short job, from what I understand. I've worked with RPGMaker of all things. It doesn't take long to reassign values to new playable characters. Basically, the only reason this could possibly be having this much trouble is if they moved to Unreal (which I think they did) and they had to rebuild the programming. However, the solution is to delay the game, not push out an unfinished product. For those who would argue it is a finished product, it is unfinished because it has legacy compatibility. To not have legacy compatibility in a product advertised for its ability to play with legacy saves/content is by its very definition unfinished. It would be like Telltale Games releasing Walking Dead Season 2 and saying it uses your previous save file from season 1 to alter story bits throughout the season slightly, but then they change absolutely nothing- not even dialogue -- outside of one interaction in the first episode.

Pokemon 3DS: 809 Pokemon including all megas, z move animations, totem Pokémon, primal reversions, different forms (such as Deoxys, Rotom forms, Ash Greninja etc) on a very weak system that isn't even 720p Pokémon Switch: Remove all megas Remove all z moves Remove all totems Remove half the Pokemon on a system that is a modern gaming console that can output 1080p High Definition visuals Before you say this makes the game "unbalanced" simply don't have every Pokemon available to catch but at least let us transfer them like in every single game before Sword/Shield
