I am so jazzed at RT right now, they are nailing thematic premise. At the mention of Bartleby, I knew this episode would have something to do with the sin of Sloth. For those who don't know, Bartleby is a story by Herman Melville about a Law office worker named, well, Bartleby, who by the end of the book becomes the epitome of Apathetic. He was a diligent worker, and a go getter originally, but at one point his life becomes almost manic in his cynicism and simply "prefers NOT to do things." One can translate this to: Why get a promotion? You could screw it up. Why go to a party, it'll be underwhelming. Why get in a relationship, you won't be happy. Why leave the office? To go to the extreme of this: Why push someone out of the way of an on coming carriage? They'll die at some point anyway. "I prefer not to." He begins to just live in his office, eating his supply of snacks because it would be too much trouble to leave. He finally dies because of the emphesis the story makes that the will to do anything, even live is important, so he basically is to apathetic to even breath, so he stops, and dies. With Team RWBY it marries this theme perfectly, where aftr the Ozma reveal, we see them suddenly succumbing to the same Why help Ozpin? It's hopeless. Why take the lamp to Atlas? Not our problem anymore. Why save the world anymore? It won't matter. RT is using their brains, and i love it!
