On May 18, 2012, Anita Sarkeesian announced her Tropes vs. Women in Video Games kickstarter on her website.

The previous day (as indicated in the picture marked in red) someone under the username anita sarkeesian !!OhXn0YoGyYK, created a thread on /v/ promoting Anita's Kickstarter. OP would later tell on the thread that he was not Anita, but the spam did go on and on (one was posted on /cgl/) until /v/ anons started getting mad at her.

The rest is history.
