The "iudge not lest ye be judged" quote sometimes gets used to imply Christians shouldn't judge others. This is NOT what this quote means. To understand, the full context must be used. The passage comes from Matthew 7:1 and reads: "Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?" (Note: some interpretations have different wording) -This conveys two primary ideas. First, the Christian shouldn't judge unless they are prepared to be judged by the same ethical standard. Second, it highlights the hypocrisy of pointing out the flaws in others without first looking at oneself -Yet, this does not, and cannot, mean that it's wrong to judge. In fact, saying "it's wrong to judge'" is a judgement! Christians, as with any thinking person or society, must make judgements on what's right and wrong. It would be impossible to function otherwise, chaos would reign -Christianity gets its moral judgements from God, or what they believe to be from God, in commandments and teachings in the Bible. So "judge not lest ye be judged" means to not judge unless you are prepared to be judged by the same standard, God -Given this view of morality, Christians view homosexual acts as sins because that's what is taught in the Bible. They are calling it a sin based on God's judgement, not from their own arbitrary code of ethics or feelings. -The meme ends saying, "isn't judging God's job?" To a Christian, the answer is, of course, yes! They form their moral judgements according to what they believe God has set.
