Height: 100cm Ferengi The Ferengi evolved on a hothouse world, their population concentrated in the perpetually wet tropical regions of their planet. Ferenginar. Individuals would fly between forests and wetlands seeking out population booms of the in- vertebrates that made up the bulk of their diet. Long slender forelimbs and an extensible second mouth allowed them to wheedle out prey from the smallest spaces, later lending them the dexterity needed for technological development. Due to the boom and bust nature of their primary prey, and their own rapid metab- olisms, Ferengi evolved a highly compet- itive instinct. Increasingly complex social groups layed claim to particular areas and protected them fiercely. However, rather than maintaining control through bloodshed, Ferengi engaged in trade. Groups that held mineral rich areas, for example, would exchange their holdings for food from the humid swamps, and a complex network of decentralized commerce developed that was formalized in the creation of the Ferengi Alliance under which most modern Ferengi live. The Alliance was financially deregulated but aggressively socially conservative towards females. It remained so until the work of the Ferengi Ishka and her son Rom began social liberalization.
