Notes:
So…RWBY volume 3 has come and gone, and with the fourth one airing shortly in the fall, I think it's time to espouse why this show isn't as good as people think.
Is RWBY enjoyable? Yes, at times, but I've kind of given up on it. Unlike the rest of the fans, my reaction to volume 3 was basically "oh, so you're trying to make up for not having a plot so far by making everything dark and edgy as quickly as possible." To quote Mr. Plinkett: "Just because it's dark doesn't mean it's good. My stool's dark, and doctor says that's bad. But what does he know about interior decorating."
So, if you haven't gotten p----- and left at this point, then indulge me further in this rant. I'm not claiming that RWBY's the worst thing since the Star Wars prequels, or that the people who enjoy it are bad. But the show, as a whole, is a lackluster product, and I'm going to break down why…
[Long Rant]
TL;DR
There's a lot more I could talk about, but this rant is long enough as is and I don't feel like continuing it further. Basically, just know that RWBY is not that good. If you enjoy it, fine, but don't try to act like it's a brilliant story. It's barely passable. Enjoy it, but don't edify it.
If there's one positive I can say, it's that it's better than Attack of the Clones. Some of the fight scenes are fun even if they don't feel like the characters are never in danger, and there are occasional good moments of characterization. There's stuff to watch, but the show, as a whole, is hampered by the bad.
Final rating: 3/10
