Without a god there is no true morality only subjective human values which change with society. Romans thought slavery was okay, The British Empire approved of racism against blacks and saw them as less worth than whites. The USSR was okay with social Dawinism and forced eugenics. There wasn't much outcry as these societies deemed these things morally acceptable.

This is the natural conclusion of atheism as it has no source of morality and historically, atheist communist states have used their own ideologies to form their own twisted morality.
