The Ancient Meme Culture was a civilization that appeared in the dank swamplands of modern-day Venezuela somewhere in the early 16th century. The Memers, as they were called, were a confederation of indigenous nations lead by the legandary chieftain Wojak the Great, based around the cult of fetishes known to the local tongue as "Wai'fuhs". Each memer warrior pledged loyalty to one of these Wai'fuhs and became their loyal servants. However, this caused many strife and violence among the memer who often lead bloody wars against "those with inferior Wai'fuhs"
This character of memer society was quickly noted by conquistador José "Pepe" de Tendia, who used these internal conflicts to swiflty dominate the Memer realm. The war against the Spanish was fierce and by 1600 no memer was left. However, the struggles of this nation have been recorded by the spanish cleric Fray Don de los Angeles in the Codex Memeticus, published in Seville in 1598.
