You Best Start Believing In Ghost Stories, You're In One is a line from the 2003 film Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. It is used to show when the reader is already a part of a group or situation they didn't wish to be, often to comical effect.
Origin
The line comes from the film Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl released on July 9th, 2003 by Walt Disney pictures. The line is uttered by Captain Hector Barbossa, played by Geoffrey Rush, to Elizabeth Swann, played by Kiera Knightley, while he steps forward into the moonlight reveals himself to be undead (shown below).
Spread
The first recorded instance of the line and screenshot being used for a meme was uploaded to Know Your Meme on the 2nd of October 2011 by user Madcat (shown below, left). On March 20th, 2018, an example making fun of normies was posted to /r/dankmemes[1] by u/MarinCropsOfficial, gaining over 8,700 upvotes (shown below, right).
On March 3rd, 2018, Facebook page Succulent Socialist Memes[2] posted a Communism meme with the template, gaining over 50 shares (shown below, left). On June 7th, 2018, KnowYourMeme user SMASHED AND SLAMMED posted a Shrek Cringe Compilation version of the meme (shown below, left).
