Why Don't You Ever Give Up? Because He Never Did, alternatively written Why Won't You Just Give Up? Because They Never Did and Why Don't You Just Give Up? Because He Never Did, refers to a Wojak Comic meme format based on the Babe Please Stop meme format in which Yes Chad explains the inspiration behind his perseverance. The format achieved virality in May 2023 with a video of an iguana escaping a pack of snakes being the best-known version of the meme.
Origin
On January 16th, 2023, the Facebook[1] page Din Djarin-Core posted a version of Babe Please Stop Wojak Comic featuring the Crying Asa Asagiri and Yes Chad characters, recaptioned "Why won't you just give up!!?? Because they never did." The meme displayed images of actors Ke Huy Quan and Brendan Fraser, both of whom recently revitalized their careers and found critical acclaim. The post received over 17,000 reactions and 4,400 shares in one year.
On January 20th, iFunny[2] user Yeah_Im_THAT_Guy reposted the image, garnering over 6,700 likes on the platform in one year.
On January 26th, 2023, TikTok[3] user @oldrowoutdoors combined an alternative version of the comic with a recently viral video of an iguana making a narrow escape from a pack of snakes (taken from an episode of Planet Earth II). The video (shown below) gained over 56,000 views and 3,900 likes in one year.

In the following months, the format achieved popularity with esports organizations, which used it to highlight players who managed to win their matches and tournaments despite fierce competition. For example, on March 30th, 2023, the X[4] / Twitter social media account for the Overwatch team Washington Justice made a post about their player BenBest that gained over 20 reposts and 510 likes in 10 months (shown below, left).
On May 22nd, the X[5] social media account for Team Vitality used the meme in its post about Counter-Strike player apEX (shown below, right).
On May 6th, 2023, TikTok[6] user @coollikedat30 remade the January meme based on the iguana video, with the edit garnering over 13.2 million views and 2.2 million likes in eight months (shown below). The meme was widely shared on X,[7] iFunny[8] and other platforms in the following months.

The viral spread of the edit was followed by more memes based on the format, making use of both images and videos.
