Vladimir Putin And Kim Jong Un Driving In Car refers to the image of the Russian and North Korean dictators driving around in a car Putin gifted to Kim shortly after the two countries concluded a mutual defense and alliance pact on June 20th, 2024. The images, which were published online by North Korean state media, became a viral meme with users captioning them and commenting on the apparent friendship, 'bromance,' and happiness of both Putin and Kim.
Origin
Putin visited North Korea on June 20th, 2024 and exchanged a series of gifts with Kim Jong Un in order to cement friendly relations between their two countries. North Korea is currently supplying Russia with arms for its war against Ukraine, according to American officials.[1] Vladimir Putin gave Kim an Aurus Senat, a form of Russian luxury car, while Kim Jong Un gave Putin a pair of dogs, according to North Korean state media.[2]
Videos released by Russian state media on the 19th showed the two men driving around together. One particular moment from the video of Kim smiling at Putin was particularly interesting to meme makers, and was widely reposted. On X, the account @BRICSinfo (referring to the anti-American dollar BRICS coalition) posted the video below, earning over 33,000 likes and 2.5 million views in just over a day.[3]

The reposts of the video by some X accounts, including @PopCrave, were criticized by commenters for promoting Putin and Kim.

Meme makers quickly reposted the image, speculating about the words exchanged between Kim and Putin as well as their inner thoughts. @kirawontmiss posted the image of Kim smiling at Putin to X (seen below) on June 20th, earning over 250,000 likes in less than a day.[4]
Other posters commented on the image's depiction of the two leaders at an unusual angle. @sophxthompson earned over 166,000 likes in 14 hours on June 21st for asking about the unusual camera angle of the Kim and Putin shot (seen below).[5]
Some found the image relatable, including @DaveMcNamee3000 who earned 43,000 likes in a day for the post (seen below) comparing Kim and Putin to himself and his friends on June 20th.[6]
