About
Titus O'Neil Falling refers to jokes made about professional wrestler Titus O'Neil accidentally tripping on his way towards the ring during the WWE's "Greatest Royal Rumble" event and sliding under the ring.
Origin
On April 27th, 2018, WWE held a "Greatest Royal Rumble" event in Saudi Arabia. During the titular match, fifty wrestlers entered the ring at roughly 90-second intervals. When Titus O'Neil entered, he tripped while running to the ring, causing him to slide headfirst underneath the ring (fan upload shown below).
Spread
After the moment, commentators Michael Cole, Corey Graves, and Byron Saxton laughed about it for several minutes afterwards. Cole pointed out that the moment was similar to one O'Neil had in WWE developmental promotion NXT where he tripped while attempting to carry a keg (moment shown below).
It was reported that WWE chairman Vince McMahon was backstage crying from laughter, telling the production team to keep showing the replay.[1] Online, wrestling fans joked about the moment comparing it to an infamous entrance by WCW wrestler The Shockmaster, who in the 80s burst through a wall but tripped, leading to his bejeweled storm trooper helmet to fall off (moment shown below).
Former ECW and WWE wrestler Stevie Richards posted on his Twitter account[2] a photoshop of The Shockmaster's helmet onto O'Neil, gaining over 1,100 retweets and 5,200 likes (shown below, left). Account @Wrestling_Memes[3] tweeted a joke of Shockmaster passing a torch to O'Neil, gaining over 2,000 retweets and 6,600 likes (shown below, right). Twitter jokes about the moment were covered by Twitter Moments.[4]
Additionally, YouTube users uploaded video parodies of the moment. YouTuber MrVegemiteLover uploaded an edit of the moment set to the "Chariots of Fire" song (shown below, left). On April 30th, account Top10Wrestling uploaded a compilation of video parodies (shown below, right).
