Sup Jew is a series of memes, including redraws, based on a piece of South Park fan art depicting the character Eric Cartman pinning Kyle to a wall and saying, "Sup Jew?" The art was posted by DeviantArt user Anna-Autobot12 in September 2012 and went viral years later on X and TikTok as the subject of memes.

Origin

On September 11th, 2012, DeviantArt^[1] user Anna-Autobot12 posted a piece of South Park fan art shipping Cartman and Kyle, writing, "Totally fell in love with Kyman over these passed few week!!" The artwork depicts Cartman pinning Kyle, a character who he often makes fun of for being Jewish, and saying, "Sup Jew?" The post gained over 32,000 views and 490 favorites in 12 years.

Spread

The art largely flew under the radar until January 2021 when it became the subject of redraws and memes on TikTok. Many of these memes are redraw montages in which the redraw is shown in real-time or revealed using a wipe-away effect.

For example, on January 20th, 2022, TikToker ^[2] @wendyskitkat posted an Eddsworld redraw of the meme that gained over 70,000 views in two years.

On April 1st, a Five Nights at Freddy's redraw was posted to the subreddit /r/fnafcringe,^[3] garnering over 230 upvotes in the same span of time.

Also in 2022, a Pinterest^[4] board was started that collected over 40 examples of the meme redrawn. On September 16th, X^[5] user @fistfightjesus posted a similar thread consisting of numerous examples of the meme, garnering over 300 likes in two years.

On November 6th, 2023, X^[6] user @staryyaoi posted a far more comprehensive thread filled with examples of the meme, garnering over 6,000 likes in 11 months.

On July 31st, 2024, X^[7] user @CartmanSilly posted a screenshot of the original "Sup Jew" DeviantArt post, writing, "Fun fact: The 'Sup Jew' picture came out on September 11th of 2012," garnering over 25,000 likes in three months.

On August 1st, X^[8] user @forkbobm quote-reposted the user, writing, "rt if youre older than sup jew," garnering over 54,000 likes in two months. On September 11th, X^[9] user @staryyaoi posted the original meme, wishing it a happy anniversary, garnering over 43,000 likes in a month.
