The Umbrella Academy is an American comic book and television superhero series created by American musician and writer Gerard Way. The comic centers around a group of young superheroes bonded together by their mysterious, unrelated births from women who were not pregnant. Artist Gabriel Bá illustrated the comics.
History
Comic
On September 19th, 2007, Dark Horse Comics published the first issue of The Umbrella Academy entitled "The Day the Eiffel Tower Went Berserk" (shown below, left).[1] Over the next six months, Dark Horse published five more issues, later releasing this initial six-issue run as a collection: The Umbrella Academy: The Apocalypse Suite (shown below, right).
Over the next decade, Dark Horse released two more volumes of The Umbrella Academy: The Umbrella Academy: Dallas and The Umbrella Academy: Hotel Oblivion (shown below, left and right, respectively).
Netflix Television Series
On July 11th, 2017, Variety[2] reported that Netflix greenlit an Umbrella Academy television series.
On January 24th, 2019, Netflix released a trailer for the first season of The Umbrella Academy. The post received more than 8.2 million views in less than two years (shown below, left). The series premiered on February 15th, 2019. Weeks later, on March 31st, Screen Rant[3] confirmed that a second season of the series was in production.
On July 8th, 2020, Netflix premiered the trailer for the series' second season. The post received more than 7.3 million views in less than one month (shown below, right). The show's second season premiered on July 31st, 2020.
Fandom
On May 23rd, 2013, the /r/UmbrellaAcademy[6] subreddit launched. As of August 2020, the group has more than 76,000 readers.
Launched in February 2018, the Umbrella Academy's verified Twitter[4] account has more than 331,000 followers. The show's verified Facebook[5] account has more than 500,000 followers and 478,000 likes.
