About

Mighty Magiswords is an American Flash animated online and television series created by Kyle A. Carrozza specifically for Cartoon Network Video, being the network's first online original series. The show would later be picked up as a full-length television series on Cartoon Network in 2016, with its first episode premiering on September 29th.

Premise

The series is about Vambre and Prohyas Warrior, a brother and sister team that comprise “Warriors for Hire," who go on adventures and quests to earn Jemms and collect magic weapons known as Magiswords, with each one having its own purpose or function, such as transportation or shooting magic projectiles. They go all across the land of Lyvsheria to collect Magiswords. The Warriors have several allies and enemies across Lyvsheria, such as their pet/roommate Grup the Dragon and rivals Witch Way, another team of warriors who reside in Transylberia.

History

Mighty Magiswords was created by Kyle A. Carrozza, an animator, voice actor, musician and storyboard artist. Prior to creating and working on Magiswords, he was previously the creator, storyboard artist and voice actor for his short "MooBeard: The Cow Pirate" on the Nicktoons Network cartoon showcase, Random! Cartoons, along with various animation contributions, such as uncredited work on Animaniacs^[1], and as a storyboard artist for shows such as Fanboy and Chum Chum and Fish Hooks.

Reception

Mighty Magiswords has received mixed to positive reviews. Some praise was given for the humor, but criticized the tone, and some said that the show started the network's decline when they compare it to the previous Cartoon Network shows, with only a 5.1 IMDB score. One mixed reaction came from Emily Ashby of Common Sense Media who wrote, "…Short on substance or value. Kids may not learn much from watching, but they'll undoubtedly enjoy the characters' antics and the laughable mayhem that ensues when each new magisword gets put to use."
