About
Friday Night Fappin' is an adult "jerk off instruction" (JOI) video game mod of Friday Night Funkin' (FNF) where players pick a character from FNF and are asked to masturbate according to the instructions given by the character as lewd animations of the character play. The game was released online in February 2022. The game and its production team became the subject of criticism online in July of that year for using allegedly underage characters in the game and for selling the mod despite FNF being free, sparking the hashtag "#BanFridayNightFappin" and accusations that some members of the team are pedophiles based on DM screenshots.
History
On February 6th, 2022, independent game developer NSFW Club Games published Friday Night Fappin' JOI to itch.io.[1] The game, advertised as an "AI-driven JOI," has players pick from a variety of FNF characters, including characters popularized through FNF mods and tick boxes relating to their preferred style of masturbation. The chosen character then instructs the player to masturbate according to their instructions, following the beat of the background song. As the player progresses, NSFW animations of the characters play out on-screen. The game received consistent updates throughout 2022. The itch.io page features a roadmap graphic showcasing each update (shown below).
A demo for Friday Night Fappin' is available for free or pay-what-you-want download on itch.io. To unlock the full game, you have to become a patron on the game's Patreon page.[2] The game can also be downloaded as an APK file for use on Android phones.
Criticism
#BanFridayNightFappin / #DeathToFridayNightFappin
On July 22nd, 2022, Twitter[3] user @Classified_FNF posted a tweet asking users to report the Twitter account @nsfwclubgames, the creator of Friday Night Fappin'. @Classified_FNF writes, "please report the Friday Night Fappin account for being downright inhumane, doing weird nsfw shit around minors, harassing minors, stealing characters, being a downright asshole and they have minors on the team." The tweet gained over 360 likes and 120 retweets in four days. In a reply to the tweet, @Classified_FNF writes, "I don't appreciate friends of mine being harassed and treated like this. Let's stop Friday Night Fappin once and for all #DeathToFridayNightFappin. Spread the hashtag for the cause" (shown below). @nsfwclubgames regularly posts and retweets adult content depicting FNF characters.
The hashtag #DeathToFridayNightFappin became prominent on Twitter over the following days as users, including FNF modders, accused @nsfwclubgames of using their characters in Friday Night Fappin' without permission, harassing them and depicting underage characters in an inappropriate way. On July 23rd, Twitter[4] user @starcanreallybe accused @nsfwclubgames of stealing their artwork and threatening to add them to their game on the user's birthday. On the same day, Twitter[5] user @Loserma75153452 posted Discord screenshots to Twitter allegedly showing @JessFrost_NSFW, who works at NSFW Club Games, trying to get nudes from underage people. @nsfwclubgames retweeted numerous posts under the #DeathToFridayNightFappin hashtag to mock them and deny accusations (examples shown below). Some criticized the developers for putting the game behind a paywall despite being a mod of a free game.
On July 24th, 2022, the similar hashtag #BanFridayNightFappin began spreading on Twitter, becoming more popular than #DeathToFridayNightFappin in the following days. The hashtag was used in the same way to criticize the NSFW Club Games team (example shown below, left). On July 25th, Twitter[6] user @BlueTubby criticized the developers for selling the game even though it's a mod of a free game (Friday Night Funkin') (shown below, right).
The criticism towards Friday Night Fappin' inspired a Streisand Effect. where the mod seemingly became more popular due to the criticism. On July 25th, Twitter[7] user @LenaSiprops2007 posted a video showing evidence of this, gaining over 220 likes in a day (shown below). On the same day, @nsfwclubgames posted a tweet[8] claiming Friday Night Fappin' is "the only mod to trend two days in a row."
