About
Blue's Clues / Blue's Clues & You! is an American animated/live-action children's television series created by Angela Santomero,[5] Todd Kessler,[4] and Traci Paige Johnson,[3] for Nickelodeon's younger children block, Nick Jr.
Premise
This educational children series aims at early child development with a pleasing animation and production team that engages the audience to learn. The show focused around a host who has an animated puppy named Blue. She leaves three clues to various objects for the host and his friends. They must work together to figure out what she wants with the help of the viewers, the handy dandy notebook, and the thinking chair.
History
In the Summer of 1994, the creation of Blue was born by three college graduates in an office building high above New York's Times Square.[2] She was first originally designed as a male cat who was named Mr. Orange and then later named to Mr. Blue. However, Nickelodeon was already looking for a cat themed cartoon, so the cat idea was scrapped and the team finalized the design to be a puppy.[2] Blue's Clues made its debut on September 8th, 1998,[8][12] premiering on Nickelodeon.
Steve Burns
Steve was born on October 9th, 1973 in Boyertown, Pennsylvania[6] and was the first host of Blue's Clues. His iconic look consisted of a green horizontal striped shirt, tan pants with a belt, and black shoes.[14] In 2000, during the height of the shows popularity, People's magazine named Steve as one of most eligible bachelors along with likes of George Clooney and Ben Affleck.[10][11] He became a huge star among the younger crowds and was even nominated for a Daytime Emmy in 2001.[10] On Monday, April 29th, 2002, Steve made his final appearance in season 4, episode 24 of the show.[9] Heading off to college, he left his younger brother Joe to take care of the house and Blue. Upon leaving the show many rumors circled around saying that Steve died of drug overdose or was killed in a car accident.[10][11] Real reasons as to why he left the show include him pursuing a career in music as a solo artist and as part of bands such as the Flaming Lips,[11] and the fact that he was going bald.[2][10][11]
Donovan Patton
Donovan, known as Joe on the show, was born on March 1st, 1978 in Guam[7] and was the second host of Blue's Clues. Just like Steve when he auditioned, Joe had no idea what Blue's Clue's was, his first thoughts of the title, were that the show had to do with rhythm & blues and he imagined Blue as a dog with a soul patch and a saxophone.[12][13] On Tuesday, April 30th, 2002 he became the host of the show on season 5, Episode 1.[15] On August 6th, 2006, Joe made his final appearance in season 6, episode 10 on Blue's Clues. This episode was a crossover for the premiere of the second season for the spin-off series of Blue's Room.[16]
Reboot
A reboot of the Blue's Clues series was announced by Nickelodeon at its upfront presentation on March 6th, 2018. According to Variety, twenty episodes have been ordered and filming is scheduled to begin in summer of 2018.[1] The reboot, titled Blue's Clues & You!, features notable changes such as CGI animation in comparison to the 2D animation of the first show, slight updates to fit the modern day, and a new host in the form of Josh, the cousin of Steve and Joe, played by Joshua Dela Cruz, The show premiered on November 11th, 2019 and notably featured Burns and Patton reprising their previous roles of Steve and Joe respectively.
Joshua Dela Cruz
Joshua Dela Cruz, or simply Josh, is the host of the current incarnation of Blue's Clues titled Blues Clues and You!. Best known as an understudy for the Aladdin stage musical on Broadway, he was introduced to the show by his younger sister, where they would both watch the show together years prior. Burns, who was consulted for casting for the new show, chose Cruz to be the new host.
