Regional American Food, also known as @RegionalUSFood, is a gimmick account on Twitter dedicated to posting weird American foods from every state similar to many food porn accounts. They're usually strange variations of hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza and sandwiches, among other dishes. Some of the most notable include the oversized Indiana pork tenderloin sandwich, the Rochester, New York "garbage plate" and Southern Illinois chowder. The account started posting content in early 2021.
History
On January 20th, 2021, the Twitter[1] account RegionalUSFood posted its first tweet, depicting a "chow mein sandwich" from Fall River, Massachusetts. The tweet received over 130 likes in 17 months (shown below).
The account continued to post American food content going into the remainder of 2021, however, the content predominantly received under 100 likes besides a couple of exceptions. For instance, on July 16th, 2021, it tweeted[2] a photo of "Salt Potatoes" from Syracuse, New York, earning over 100 likes in 10 months (shown below, left). On August 3rd, 2021, it tweeted[3] a photo of a "Jucy Lucy," a burger with cheese inside the patty, from Minneapolis, Minnesota. The tweet received over 100 likes in nine months (shown below, right).
Online Presence
In early 2022, the account received increased engagement following a few viral posts. On April 30th, 2022, the account tweeted[4] a picture of a pork tenderloin sandwich from Indiana and Iowa. Over the course of three days, the tweet received roughly 21,200 likes (shown below, left). Due to some user replies, the account posted a second tweet[5] on April 30th that stated, "had some folks say the pork tenderloin sandwich (Indiana) in the last post was too small so let’s get freaky with it," earning roughly 32,600 likes in three days (shown below, right).
The account received multiple reactions, replies and quote retweets going into May 2022. For instance, on April 30th, 2022, Twitter[6] user streamed_hams compared the pork tenderloin sandwich to the continent of Australia, earning roughly 2,300 likes in three days (shown below).
