I was reading Evil's Euro traveling thread, which is pretty neat, and came across this exchange: At one point in a bar a girl who didn't speak any English came up to me and started flirting heavily, then went straight into asking me to buy her a drink, as Itxaka translated when I didn't know what the hell was going on. I laughed, because drinks here were all of two Euros, but consented and then grabbed her ass hard to show that I wasn't being taken advantage of, and she thought better of treating me as a mark and left without taking her drink I wasn't entirely sure what to make of it. I read further down the page and there seemed to be quite a bit of support for physical dominant gestures to make a point. It really got me thinking about how men have a dominant physical relationship with women in all kinds of social settings. And I wonder how that affects the overall relationship of the sexes. There's a plethora of literature that discusses the effects of physical dominance on the human psyche, and it makes me wonder whether our (male) gestures have unintended consequences on the development of female empowerment at a deeper level. Where does gaf stand on this?
