About

Running From A Serial Killer, also known as When I'm Getting Chased by A Killer But X, is a trend and meme on TikTok in which participants pretend they are running from a serial killer but stop and turn the other way after realizing that the murderer is something or someone they like. The trend, an offshoot of the earlier Hiding From A Serial Killer meme, became popularized in late October 2024.

Origin

On October 19th, 2024, TikToker thespamofkaylee[1] uploaded the first instance of this trend in which she can be seen in her living room initially running away before turning around and starting to take her shirt off away from the camera. The text used on screen, which became the first template, reads, "when I'm getting chased by a killer but I realize it's a fine ass alcoholic country boy," and earned her over 55,000 likes in two weeks with the background sound being remixed in over 42,000 TikToks as of late October 2024 (shown below).

Spread

Over the following week, the trend started to increase in volume on TikTok, as well as spread out in its application. On October 25th, 2024, TikToker montanaandryan[2] uploaded a version in which he pretended to be running away before realizing that the serial killer was just his wife. Instead of lifting up his shirt as he walked away, however, he began to lower his pants, adding a different take on the formula and earning over 654,000 likes in four days (shown below).

As the trend continued to evolve, different variations of it began to get posted to the audio first uploaded by Kaylee. On October 27th, 2024, the most liked example of the trend was uploaded by the TikToker professionalchitchatter,[3] who attempted to show how doing trends is difficult for them because of their cat jumping up and getting in the way of the phone, earning over 4.2 million likes in three days (shown below).
