About
Rick and Morty Voice Recasting refers to a series of social media posts about the expected voice actor change for season seven of the animated series Rick and Morty, which followed the announcement that Justin Roiland (the voice actor of both titular characters) was removed from the show after his domestic violence scandal and grooming allegations were raised against him in January 2023. Online, users reacted to the news by suggesting new actors for the role and submitting their own impressions, as well as posting memes and other jokes or parodies.
Origin
On January 24th, 2023, the official Twitter[1] account for the Adult Swim animated series Rick and Morty announced that Justin Roiland, the series co-creator and voice actor for the titular duo of characters (including many others), is no longer associated with the project (announcement shown below, left). The announcement followed the domestic violence charges and accusations of grooming brought against the voice actor days earlier. Later that day, the Twitter[2] account Discussing Film tweeted that the voice roles of Rick and Morty would be recast for the future seasons of the show (tweet shown below, right).
Spread
Immediately following the news, users on Twitter shared humorous posts that imagined how the show would be like in its next season and proposed various actors for the roles of Rick, Morty or both. For example, on January 24th, 2023, Twitter[3] user @iambrodin tweeted a meta-joke from The Simpsons as a reference to the situation, with the post gaining over 690,000 views, 2,000 retweets and 18,800 likes in one day (shown below).

Also that day, Twitter[4] user @TristenMathis suggested Chris Pratt as a voice actor for the show, referencing the Chris Pratt Voices Everyone meme. The post gained over 400 retweets and 15,800 likes in one day (shown below, left). Twitter[5] user @IndieApaca then posted a bait tweet inviting readers to search for Justin Roiland's interactions with minors, with the post garnering over 10,200 retweets and 107,600 likes in one day (shown below, right).
Additionally, some users shared their impressions of Rick and Morty. For example, on January 24th, 2023, Twitter[6] user @skatie420 shared an intentionally poor impression of the characters that received over 6.8 million views, 9,300 retweets and 115,000 likes in one day (shown below).
