PETA PETA @peta Steve Irwin's actions were not on target with his supposed message of protecting wildlife. A real wildlife expert & someone who respects animals for the individuals they are leaves them to their own business in their natural homes. LUPESNIHNE TEA Replying to @peta Steve Irwin didn't have a kill rate over 80% (you do). He didn't donate $70k to a convicted arsonist (you did). Today's #GoogleDoo " All of this is true. Yes, Steve did a lot of great things for animals, and for that I'm grateful as he was one of my childhood idols. However, doing many great things does not excuse your wrongdoings. If we ignore the things he did wrong, no one will ever learn from it. Towards the end of his life, he quite obviously began to monetize his content more and more, which led to the harassment of animals for entertainment. There is nothing wrong with critiquing the actions of someone who has died. The fact that a person has died does not make their actions in life moral. Yes, he did many good things for animals, but he also exploited them as well. "Steve Irwin was an educator and certainly a lover of animals, but there is a huge ethical gap between his program and say that of David Attenborough. A lot of people still struggle to accept this but wildlife does not exist to amuse human beings, their habitat is under threat all over the world because of human pollution and inaction. PETA is right to draw attention away from attitudes of the past, towards more meaningful and urgent action. It's also no surprise that other wildlife experts like Simon King and Alistair Fothergill were critical of Irwin's style.
