About

Penis-chan refers to an image of a feminized, hentai version of a male penis. Although the exact illustrator is unknown, the image first circulated on Hong Kong message boards and blogspots in 2011, even though the image has a Japanese origin. Penis-chan received attention on Reddit in 2012 although it received the most amount of attention starting in 2018 once it was translated to English.

Origin

The exact origin of the Penis-chan image is unknown, however, the highest-quality version of the original image can be accessed from an Imgur^[1] post uploaded in 2015 (shown below). According to a Reddit^[2] comment posted in 2012, the stylized text at the top of the image is Japanese and translates to "Penis Yumiko." The word Yumiko is a Japanese girl's name that means "beautiful, helpful child." ^[3]

Penis-chan was created in 2011. The earliest known posting of a Penis-chan is from 2011. This blogspot^[4] post, uploaded in June 2011, is the first known and accessible posting of the two-panel Penis-chan image without a watermark (shown below). It has Chinese text overlayed which roughly translates to saying "the face is single" and "I vomit." According to a Tineye search,^[5] however, the earliest instance, which has since been deleted, was posted in late January 2011. The image was most likely uploaded to the website bigfools.com and the Chinese message board 0chan sometime in January 2011.

Spread

On May 5th, 2012, the full image of Penis-chan was posted to Reddit's^[6] r/WTF by a user who has since been deleted. Although Redditors in the comment section say they've seen it before, this is the first known instance of its posting on Reddit. The link to the image no longer works but is a hyperlink to an archived foolz.us jpg. This is most likely the same link to the bigfools.com January 28th, 2011, post which comes up in the Tineye search.^[5] The two-panel comic of Penis-chan began to accumulate watermarks from Asian image-sharing sites like eniedu.com and mop.com, among others.^[7]

On January 9th, 2018, Redditor^[8] Toad_novice posted an English-translated version of the two-panel comic to the subreddit r/Animemes. The image (shown below) received 130 upvotes over four years.

The translated comic made its way to other message boards like 9GAG^[9] in February 2018. Penis-chan also began to make appearances in memes on Twitter. A known instance of this is a tweet from Twitter^[10] user @dragonogon who photoshopped Penis-chan into a Super Smash Bros. 4 Character Announcement Parody. The meme (shown below) received 52 likes over four years.

In 2019, Penis-chan was posted to iFunny^[11] as well as onto other subreddits like r/MakeMeSuffer^[12] and r/nanithefuck,^[13] among others.

Penis-chan Variants

In early 2014, another Penis-chan image^[18] began circulating online. Although the original illustrator is unknown, a watermarked version of the image reveals a weibo.com URL that no longer exists. This URL, and the user listed on top of it, is most likely the creator of this Penis-chan variant.

On October 14th, 2020, another artist Amanda Darko^[14] began posting Dick-kun and Coochie-kun. Two images posted to her Facebook^[14] are shown below.

Additionally, in January 2017, the Facebook^[15] page I Draw You're Waifu As A Dick began posting content. The page is dedicated to drawing popular anime and hentai characters as penises. The page has gained roughly 1,200 followers over five years.
