"How did the war end?" is a viral Reddit post which features a translated page from a Korean textbook. The page has been used as an exploitable meme, in which portions of the page are edited with different content.
Origin
The Korean textbook page (shown below, left) was first posted to the Korean website Ruliweb on September 4th, 2023.[1] A translation of the page (shown below, right) was later posted to Reddit's r/HistoryMemes[2] subreddit by onex7805 on May 27th, 2024, where it received over 22,000 upvotes in one week.
The page asks "How did the war end?", and shows four panels to choose from below:
- The war ended when all German people were happy because farming was going well.
- Hitler realized his mistake and stopped the war.
- The war ended when the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan.
- Hitler stopped the war when all the children in the world wrote letters asking him to stop the war.
The post received over 22,000 upvotes in five days.
