Hands Holding McDonald's Hashbrowns refers to an exploitable meme derived from a PNG template posted by McDonald's of two hands holding McDonald's hashbrowns. It became popular among Virtual YouTubers and artists on Twitter / X in July of 2024 as a template similar to Dedechi's or @dEi_pft's POV templates.
Origin
On July 13th, 2024, the McDonald's Japan official Twitter / X[1] account uploaded a PNG template of two hands holding a hasbrown, with a caption roughly translated as "For VTubers who stream morning activities! Breakfast at McDonald's with two hash browns ® ︎Material distribution!!" The post received more than 20,000 reposts and 66,000 likes in three days (shown below).
Spread
Starting in mid-July 2024, shortly after the image was posted, the image grew popular as material for fan art and edits. For example, on July 13th, 2024, Twitter / X[2] user @dokuzeturiyu2 uploaded fan art of Shirasu Azusa from Blue Archive that received 5,100 reposts and 40,000 likes in three days (shown below, left). On the next day, Twitter / X[3] user @erikiri_ uploaded fan art of Corin Wickes from Zenless Zone Zero, which received more than 2,100 reposts and 19,000 likes in two days (shown below, right).
On July 13th, 2024, Twitter / X[4] user @NGNMO_ uploaded an edit that received more than 1,800 reposts and 8,300 likes in three days (shown below, left). On the next day, Twitter / X[5] user @zxvxas120 uploaded an edit that received more than 9,000 reposts and 7,800 likes in two days (shown below, right).
