George Washington If He Exist Today refers to a two-panel comic and exploitable meme format in which a liberal and a Republican are seething as they argue over whether the first United States President George Washington would be woke if he was alive today, with the second panel showing George Washington ignoring the argument and instead expressing his fondness for something unconnected, usually a fictional character. Originally a meme about Skibidi Toilet, the format has been used on Reddit, iFunny and other sites since November 2023.

Origin

On November 20th, 2023, Redditor Tooma8_ posted a two-panel comic meme, with the first panel depicting two seething men representing a liberal and a republican arguing whether or not George Washington would be woke if he was alive today. The second panel shows George Washington ignoring the argument and instead expressing his fondness of Skibidi Toilet, misspelling it, with Skibidi Toilet thanking the former President.

The post (shown below) garnered over 3,300 upvotes in the /r/okbuddyretard^[1] subreddit in nine months.

On November 21st, 2023, Redditor ThiccNSpicy posted the earliest found edit of the meme, replacing George Washington with the character Sigma from Overwatch 2. The post (shown below) received over 800 upvotes in the /r/OverwatchCirclejerk^[2] subreddit in nine months.

The meme format saw occasional use online in late 2023 and the first half of 2024 but experienced a surge in popularity in late July 2024, with users replacing Skibidi Toilet, George Washington or both with various people characters. For example, on July 28th, X^[3] user @YuuriAlPotato posted a version that received over 400 reposts and 5,200 likes in one month (shown below).
