About
Fauci Holding Sign, also known as Fauci Holding Paper, refers to an exploitable image macro in which Dr. Anthony Fauci is holding up a piece of paper at a press conference in early 2022. Shortly after the conference, a screenshot of Fauci was captured from the event and turned into a meme during the "#ExposeFauci" hashtag campaign where people photoshopped various text or images onto the blank paper he was holding up.
Origin
On January 11th, 2022, while Dr. Anthony Fauci was preparing to go speak before a committee, Project Veritas released a stash of emails alleging that comments Dr. Fauci made prior to the origin of the coronavirus, which subsequently caused a social media campaign and trending hashtag under "#ExposeFauci" to trend online. As part of the trend, Twitter[1] user @Brick_Suit tweeted a blank template of Fauci holding a piece of paper, asking for memes to be made, and earned 765 likes in three days (shown below).
Spread
The meme template was quickly picked up by other Twitter users on January 11th, 2022, after Brick_Suit's tweet, with over 100 memes being made in the resulting thread or tagged afterward. One of the most liked memes created during the thread depicting a fictional portrayal of Dr. Fauci admitting[2] that he created the virus because AOC wouldn't date him, earning 150 likes in three days (shown below).
Due to the continuous and aggressive questioning by Senator Rand Paul when Fauci usually goes before a committee, Twitter user omgness4real[3] created a meme in which Dr. Fauci is complaining about Paul, earning 65 likes in two days (shown below).
