Overview

Jake Paul vs. Nate Robinson Fight refers to a professional boxing match between YouTuber Jake Paul and former professional basketball player Nate Robinson. Paul won via knockout in the second round of the fight, leading to a surge of jokes online about Robinson's poor performance.

Background

On July 23rd, 2020, a fight between Nate Robinson and Jake Paul was announced to take place in Los Angeles as an undercard bout on a night that would feature Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr. as the main event. The bout was originally scheduled to take place in September but was moved back to November 28th, 2020.[1]

On the night of the fight, Paul defeated Robinson by knocking him out in the second round. Paul[2] seemed to have a clear advantage in the short fight, knocking Robinson to the mat in the first round before ultimately knocking Robinson out with what was described as a "brutal" knockout in the second round.

Developments

After the match, social media was quickly flooded with memes mocking Robinson's performance in the fight. In particular, the responses to Nate Robinson's tweet on the night of the fight found many mocking Robinson with various photoshops and pop culture references. For example, user @JC22pr[3] posted an Among Us parody of the fight, gaining over 890 retweets and 17,000 likes (shown below, left). User @Infernasu[4] tweeted a parody showing Robinson being punched in Dragon Ball, gaining over 540 retweets and 8,500 likes (shown below, right).

Others posted videos parodying the fight. For example, user @ungenugatti posted former NBA player Paul Pierce's reaction to the fight, captioning it "Every black person before & after Nate Robinson vs Jake Paul," gaining over 440 retweets and 3,300 likes (shown below, top). TikTok user Trarags posted a video where a McDonald's employee thinks he can fight Robinson. The video was reposted to Twitter by @SimpleMachines_, gaining over 460 retweets and 1,200 likes (shown below, bottom).
