This wasn't the first time Sarkeesian receved a direct, specific threat before a speaking engagement recently on Twiter she said she had gone on stage at least three bmes after receiving specific death threats but she canceled because the Utah polce couldnt provide the secunity she requested (due to the state's concealed carry law, which is a whole other cuitural dlusterfuck). Anita is willing to be a target, but she didn't want the audience to be targets as well When this news broke something happened everyone on Twitter blamed GamerGate the harassment campaign organized under a hashmag and run ofT the kiddie-pom disseminating website 4chan for being too extreme. While the threatening letter never mentioned GamerGate It was pretty clear that this lunatic was on their wavelength Despite protestations that GamerGate is about ethics in journalism (we'll get to why thats hardcore bulshit irs been mosty a force for hounding women, especialy Sarkeesian and indie developer Zoe Quinn, with developer Brianna Wu becoming the latest women run out of her home by specific violent threats from GamerGaters The Sarkeesian threat name-dropped Marc Lépine, who was the Elott Rodger of Montreal, murdering 14 women in a seltl-described battle aganst feminism-the same enemy that GamerGate says it fights. This is the world of GamerGate, sick, pathetic men who are so threatened by women that they must etner murder them or terrorize them into silence It's important, before we get to how GamerGate has already lost, to explain how GamerGate has already proven itself a fraud As it mobilizes seething, 24-hour hate mob against women who are not journalists in the name of jourmalistic ethics it has unerty ignored a truly disturbing breach of journalistic ethics. Real payola has happened, is happening and GamerGate is silent on it. Why arent these YouTubers getting doxxed? The second everyone assumed the Utah threat came from a Gamergater they lost. Their entire campaign has been defined to mean one thing and one thing only - harassment of women. The more they claim otherwise the more bizarre they come across, like when you hear Klansmen say they don't hate black people they're just proud of being white. You wonder who they think they're fooling. Days after Malala Yousefzai became the youngest winner of the Nobel Peace Prize for standing up to the misogynist Taiban terrorists, misogynist GamerGate terrorists tried to sience Anita Sarkeesian. As Whedon says terrorism isn' about doing violence, it's about using the spectre of violence to get your way. The threats against Sarkeesian were terroristic in nature, and the GamerGaters who have fostered a campaign of hate towards her and other prominent women in the gaming community are as guilty as the diseased hands that typed the threat Many an the sidelines are baffled that GamerGaters don t just abandon the hashtag and start fresh, even the imbeciles who believe this is about journalistic ethics must understand that any movement beginning from the Flive Guys Burgers and Fries anti-Quinn sentiment (the Frve Guys thing is a reference to claims that Quinn cheated on her boytriend with five ather people, a vie slander) is growing on poisoned ground. But the reality is that they're not ashamed of their toxic origins. They own it. They are toxic people, and Im glad they're sticking with GamerGate. It lets us know exactly who to gnore, who isn't worth our time Today if you call someone a Nazi you don't mean they're Ineraly a member of the National Sociaist Party I wonder how long until it becomes commonplace to tel a friend who says something misogynistic, "You're such a GamerGater There's one last reason wihy GamerGate has already lost its campaign against women: the more noise they make, the more terror threats they send to Sarkeesian, the more they publish the home phone numbers of Zoe Quinn's family, the more they drive women like Brianna Wu out their homes, the more people who were neutral suddenly realize we need feminism. The more they rant and rave against women, the more they inch towards real world violence, the more people wake up and see that there's stil a lot of work to do when It comes to equality and that our society is sill hlled with unspoken misogynisic assumptions and practices. Every nasty tweet a GamerGater sends to a woman convinces one more person to speak up in defense of women. Their ugly hate is recruiting people for the good guys every single day. HR here actively trawls /gg/ looking for this and then bullies IT into providing dev browsing histories so they can write us up for this exact s--- Most game dev hr departments are really anti-gg and publicly expressing gg support and getting caught for it can get you heavily penalized or even canned GAME DEV POLITICS REALLY SUCK, /GG/, ACTUAL DEVELOPERS ARE OPPRESSED IN FAVOR OF MANAGEMENT AND STOCKHOLDERS AND HUMAN RESOURCES. HR HATES DEVS, PROGRAMMERS, IT!!!! The Leader of Gamergate 10/17/14 (Fri) 16:03:58 ID: 27b6d7 No.159364 159588 159822 2181017 158502 Third devfag here again HR in every company I have ever worked out is literally filled with social justice women and the department here had a company-wide seminar on GG in late september about how employees should conduct themselves on social media considering the incident Basically, before now we could put anything on our twitters and whatever and they didn't care... for a while a significant quantity of us posted pro-GG opinions those of us in development and IT Eventually, HR pulled their heads out of their butt and realized GG was a thing and after reading all of our tweets or email threads or whatever and watching Sarkeesian's videos they decided to put a stop to this support because it "reflects badly" so we were banned from mentioning gamergate on social media and using the #gamergate tag. They are policing twitter, 4chan, KiA /gg/ with a vengeance Keep in mind this might not be representative of all HR depts, surely not, but ours was special in a couple ways in that many of them are fresh-out-of-college socially opinionated and hysterical young women, and that they absolutely detest all of the NERDS that make the games this company sells. They hate all the nerds in IT too, but will constantly leverage them to keep the devs and junior IT in line. We all detest this because when the heat is on we're the only ones staying late, on weekends, busting our ass to meet deadlines with little or no overtime... let's just say the most HR has to do if it's not accounting-related is basically criticizing us QA gets hit hardest of all (they always do, a lot of us do feel sorry for QA), and 2 qa testers caught discussing it during break were let go for poisoning the work atmosphere. Keep in mind that QA doesn't technically fit into "company-wide" and they weren't privy to the new rules. Devs riot. Progs riot, IT riots, there's a new meeting, with QA involved this time, where HR doubles down on anti-GG stance So then this opportunity came to stick it to devs again after an uncharacteristically long period of peace and they ran with it, preventing all gamergate discussion online or at work. Of course the female programmers think this is b------- too but no one can say anything (they apparently fit in with the brogrammers well and I played some rp sessions with them, cool people) For a department whose new policy was o squash gamergate here was a LOT o gg discussion in HR. #StopGamergate2014 became he one loophole or discussing gamergate on witte YES #gamergate s outlawed but #stopgamergate2014 is ok. Managers are telling people pro-GG devs/progs might find themselve let go at the end of the current project cycle, and every person in the office is p-----. HR is especially p----- because IT refused to block VPNs for nonspecific "security reasons" and managed to convince real management why it's important. We managed to stick it to HR by using their words against them and blocking social media and Hatechan from the whole company.... EXCEPT the vpn users obv and they know it. Real managers take their side but are clueless because they don't care This is more than enough info for anyone in the company to recognize said company, but all I can say is that it's a prominent team in the US that worked on a number of console/pc titles. I'm not really wary of retaliation because pretty much all the devs/progs/it are on vpns except for the beta males who like to isolate themselves and HR has pretty much used every tactic it can. I think I'm the first to spill the beans but I dunno maybe there will be follo3p later. if a dev gets canned then I'm pretty sure most of us would start dropping names on /gg/.... I guess well see
