About

Discord Packing is a slang term referring to a style of rapid-fire roasting that occurs over voice calls within Discord "packing" servers. Users within the servers and channels watch or listen to the packing battles and will then later vote on a winner. The meaning of "packing" is akin to "packing" someone with fast-paced, hyper-specific insults, usually spouted in one breath and nonsensically so that the other person can't get a word in. Packers often use overblown or funny mics, sound effects and voice filters that tinge on ear rape. Discord packing first surfaced in 2018 and became notable through clips and compilations uploaded to YouTube and TikTok in the early 2020s. Some notable Discord packers (also known as "cam packers" in reference to their appearance on a "video cam") are Creedo, Marski and Packgod, among others.

Online History

The Discord packing community first surfaced in mid-2018 within unnamed, private Discord servers. The first-known Discord packing video was uploaded on July 30th, 2018, to YouTube[1] by the channel [DTRP] Apex – Korvash, earning over 690 views in four years (shown below, left). The channel [DTRP] Apex – Korvash continued posting packing videos, like its "part 3" video uploaded to YouTube[2] on August 16th, 2018, receiving roughly 2,100 views in four years (shown below, right).

Both aforementioned videos have Discord invite links in their descriptions, however, both are currently invalid invites. On January 5th, 2019, the channel uploaded a "part 13" YouTube[3] video that showed a Discord server called "Barbie PackHouse."

On August 25th, 2019, Urban Dictionary [4] user MarlosXI added "Discord Packing" to the website, defining it as, "When people scream and yell roasts at each other in a voice call for fun or beef with loud mics. They usually happen late at night so the participants do not wake up their parents." The definition also mentioned two, notable packers: Marlos and ameer. The definition received over 140 likes in three years and was soon followed by other definitions.[5]

On December 1st, 2019, YouTuber[7] Steph uploaded a video that showed packer Thizz packing packer Thot in a private server, gaining roughly 39,900 views in three years (shown below, left). On January 11th, 2020, YouTuber[8] Steph uploaded another packing video of packer Creedo "violating" packer Crackhead, earning roughly 12,300 views in two and a half years (shown below, right).

The Discord packing scene became increasingly viral going into 2020 and 2021, with notable Twitch streamers like YourRAGEGaming getting in on the scene, who hosted a packing battle in July 2020 on his YRG server with packer King Thizz who uploaded the battle to YouTube[9] on July 8th, 2020, earning roughly 812,700 views in two years (shown below).

Discord Packing Server Void

Sometime in early 2019, the Discord server void became a notable packing server as stated by YouTuber Leg in one of his YouTube[6] uploads. According to Leg in the video, the server started as a Minecraft community but became a packing-centric community as Leg and fellow admin Packgod saw opportunity and fun in the sphere.[6]

One of the first YouTube uploads showing a packing battle in the void server was uploaded on May 23rd, 2020, by YouTuber[10] XavierWild, earning roughly 6,500 views in two years (shown below, left). The void server took off en masse following Leg and Packgod's joint YouTube channel, void, going viral for a Pokimane diss track uploaded to YouTube[11] on August 3rd, 2020, earning roughly 861,400 views and 56,000 likes (shown below, right).

Packgod Leg Drama

On August 25th, 2022, Packgod posted a YouTube[8] video to his own channel that addressed issues he was having with Leg, which led Leg to "deplatform" Packgod by removing him from the void Discord server, Instagram, Twitter, Soundcloud and Spotify accounts. Packgod claimed that Leg had removed him from all of their accounts and socials so that he could make a profit on their work without having to give any of the profits to Packgod. Packgod also claimed that he did "90 percent" of the work on their YouTube channel, writing "90 percent" of the diss tracks.

Leg also deleted all of his messages with Packgod on Discord, changed the name of the Discord server to just "Leg" and purportedly painted it as if their split was mutual. Over the course of three months, Packgod's video received roughly 465,000 views and 35,000 likes (shown below).

On August 26th, 2022, Leg uploaded a YouTube[6] video called, "The Truth About Packgod," in which he addressed Packgod's accusations and the entire drama that was unfolding. Leg ultimately denied the allegations, however, a significant portion of his comment section was negative feedback, mostly comprised of comments that took Packgod's side or reiterated sadness regarding the duo's breakup. Leg's video received roughly 381,000 views and 16,000 likes in three months (shown below, left).

Packgod then posted a Leg diss track to YouTube[12] on September 14th, 2022, that featured a clip of Cr1TiKaL taking Packgod's side, earning roughly 818,300 views and 55,000 views in two months (shown below, right).
