Macwell

Context and Use:

Macwell has been adopted by the ADSB students as a name for class chats, often in the format of Macwell:classname. In the Hangouts, chains of people saying nothing but Macwell. It is unknown whether or not this is in praise of the virtues of Macwell, or just to fill in empty stretches when no one has anything to say. It is also used during classes whenever Maxwell is found to have made a mistake, playing Pokemon Showdown, or sleeping.

Origin:

The exact date of origin is unknown, but it seems to have started in Early October of 2018. The generally accepted origin is a mispelling of the name "Maxwell" during a conversation, which was then adopted by the general population of the chat. The originating Hangouts is either the Analysis 1 chat, or the ADSB chat.

Spread:

The use of the term Macwell appears to have been isolated amongst the students in the ADSB group. However, due to the wide range of classes that those students take, many 10th grade Magnet classes at Montgomery Blair HS have had exposure to the term. It also began to be used outside of chats, being used to refer to the student Maxwell in classes by the students.

Evolution:

What began as a simple mispelling has evolved to what can only be described as a religion. The classes name themselves in honor of Macwell, Macwell has become a common word in groups, and Macwell is repeated over and over without pause in chats.
