CJ and Denise on a Date refers to an exploitable image based on a screenshot from Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition in which the characters CJ and Denise Robinson are spending a date at a Clucking Bell restaurant while sitting in a booth. The image saw use as source material for memes on 4chan's /v/ board and on Discord, with users replacing CJ and Denise with various characters in redraws.

Origin

On November 10th, 2021, Redditor^[1] Cruysberghs posted a screenshot of a date cutscene between protagonist CJ and his girlfriend Denise Robinson in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition, writing about how Denise's appearance looked worse in this version of the game. The post received over 3,000 upvotes in the /r/GTA subreddit prior to being removed (shown below).

On November 11th, 2021, an anonymous 4chan user posted an exploitable template based on the image to the /v/^[2] board (shown below), sparking the redraw trend.

Spread

On November 12th, 2021, the exploitable template was posted in a /v/ thread on 4chan^[3] about the game, with two anonymous users posting^[4]^[5] the first two memes based on it (shown below, left and right).

On November 16th, 2021, an anonymous user started a dedicated thread for memes based on the template on the /v/^[6] board, with several users submitting their works.

Later that day, Facebook^[7] page Vivian James /Cinco/ posted a collection of 13 memes based on the template posted by users on /v/ and in the Vivian James /v/ Discord server. The post received over 700 reactions and 1,100 shares in less than 24 hours (examples shown below).
