Chuu Coringando Chuuringa or Joker and Chuu, is a photoshopped headshot photo of South Korean K-pop singer Chuu and Batman villain Joker split in two, showing one-half of each of their faces split down the middle. The edited picture has been used online since 2021 as a reaction image to express insanity, similar to the I Have Two Sides meme.

Origin

Although the exact date of the first "Chuuringa" (Chuu's name + Coringa) meme is unclear, the earliest known post was uploaded on December 13th, 2021, by Twitter^[1] user @wascnoir (shown below). The split image features a portrait photograph of K-pop singer Chuu, former LOONA member, and the Batman villain Joker.

Spread

The meme became a prevalent reaction image over the following years, particularly used by Brazilians to indicate a feeling of insanity and stress over a specific situation or recent event. For example, Twitter^[2] user @kyoshisgirl posted the image macro as a reaction to a post related to the January 8th, 2023, storming of Brazil's Congress event. The post (shown below, left) garnered over 1,000 likes and 22 retweets in seven months. Twitter^[3] user @kobavlr posted the same image on May 1st, 2023, to express rage over a Brazilian esports team losing a match. The post (shown below, right) garnered over 770 likes and 100 retweets in three months.

Chuuringa memes have also received some variations online. For instance, on December 31st, 2021, Twitter^[4] user @chuuringas merged the pictures of Chuu and Joker into one single image (shown below, left), garnering over 70 likes and 20 retweets in two years. On February 27th, 2021, Twitter^[5] user @jawggy uploaded a photoshopped picture of Chuu as if she was doing cosplay for the 2019 Joker film, receiving just 12 likes in roughly two years.
