Boob Shadow

About

Boob Shadow refers to a series of reaction images in which a shadow of large human breasts is cast upon the faces of various characters, most notably Apu Apustaja. The format is similar to Penis Shadow and has often been used for the purpose of hornyposting.

Origin

As of May 2022, three reaction images have seen significant use as a part of the Boob Shadow format.

Prior to July 8th, 2021, Twitter^[1] user @haideebobs posted a cartoon in which a sweating and blushing man looks up as a shadow of large breasts falls upon his face (shown below, left). The earliest found repost of the image was made on July 8th, 2021, by Twitter user @meli9774, with @haideebobs confirming^[2] that the artwork was drawn by them on March 18th, 2022.

Prior to August 20th, 2021, an unknown user edited an older reaction image^[3][4] of Apu Apustaja looking up, editing in a shadow of large breasts falling onto his face. On August 20th, 2021, Twitter^[5] user @lemme_get_a_uh made the earliest discovered repost of the image (shown below, center).

On September 9th, 2021, Twitter^[6] user @sibi2028 posted a two-panel drawing executed in the same style, with the post gaining over 13,400 retweets and 59,000 likes in nine months (shown below, right).

Spread

The version created by @haideebobs was the first to receive online spread, having been used since July 2021. For example, on July 16th, 2021, Tumblr^[7] user nocturnal-wisp used the reaction to reply to a photograph of a man with pronounced pectoral muscles posted by another user, with Tumblr^[8] user kain-fairborn replying with an edited version of the reaction image. The exchange gained over 2,800 likes and reblogs on Tumblr in one year (shown below, left and center). On August 23rd, 2021, Twitter^[9] user @miyunabeb used the image to reply to an artwork posted by artist @didRkRk, with the reply gaining 3 retweets and over 150 likes (shown below, right).

On September 9th, 2021, artist @sibi2028 tweeted^[6] the two-panel version. In the following days, multiple users on Twitter used the drawing as a meme template, creating redraw versions in which they shipped various characters. For example, on September 9th, Twitter^[10] user @drawmebabyblue posted a version shipping My Hero Academia characers Endeavor and Hawks, with the post gaining over 360 retweets and 1,600 likes (shown below, left). On September 14th, Twitter^[11] user @AruBerus posted a version in which they shipped Attack on Titan characters Reiner and Armin, with the post gaining 90 retweets and over 400 likes (shown below, right).

In late 2021, the Apu Apustaja reaction image achieved virality as a reaction image, being used on Twitter, 4chan, Reddit and other sites (examples shown below). On December 22nd, Twitter^[12] gimmick account Reactions (@reactjpg) archived the image.

In 2022, all three versions of the image maintained their prevalence online, with Apu Apustaja and @haideebobs versions being primarily used as reactions, and @sibi2028's version used a template.

Penis Shadow refers to a series of memes based on a 3D image of an elven woman with a shadow of a large penis falling onto her face, as well as other similar images. Online, memes imagining which objects could cast the shadow have been circulated.

Apu Spills His Tendies

Apu Spills His Tendies or Apu Spills His Nuggies is a reaction image of Apu Apustaja sprawled across the floor, tendies and other fast food spilled in front of him, covered with a shadow of a bully who pushed him. In May 2021, the image gained popularity in memes online, with users pairing it with images of various characters looking down on Apu as they'd be seen from Apu's perspective.
